Vallerana Alta – IGT Ciliegiolo

Ripe red cherry and plum, cedar and sweet spiceĀ aromas, medium tannins and body, very supple and refined, excellent balance and complexity, long finish. Ciliegiolo grape has been cultivated for centuries in Maremma, but only recently, following DNA analysis, it has been possible to demonstrate a strong parent/offspring correlation with the more famous Sangiovese grape. It is one of the most important component of the Morellino di Scansano blend, but we believe that it can be an excellent wine in his own right.

Grapes: Ciliegiolo 100%

Single Vineyard: tiny single vineyard of more than 40 years of age, 250 m ASL, not far from the village of Capalbio.

Vinification: fermentation in 25 Hl oak casks (open top) and ageing in 10/20 Hl oak oval casks for 12/14 months.
